He loves it!Building it was fun and a pleasure (even for an adult!). A few pieces were miss-colored and harder to find in the User Manual, but all were coded by number and letter correctly. All pieces were there. Fun to operate.Only downside for me (four stars instead of five) was that the coding ability instructions on U Tube and on line were difficult to comprehend. (I'll have to seek the advice of my grandson!!)Muy divertido, le encanta a los niños aprenden las bases para pensar la programaciónOur kid really liked how there were three builds for this and that he could both build and play with it. The instructions on the iPad were really great since you can look at them in 3D. Great gift and fun for adults too.Genial para niños, se requiere que tengan interes en armar juguetes.Perfect precent for a child. 100% recomendable. The app on new phone or iPad is broken and toy seems useless to build. This review was written by my 11 year old son, Nathaniel.----------I’m an avid LEGO builder, and I’ve participated in the FIRST LEGO League as well as LEGO robotics competitions. I’ve built kits at home as large as 1000 pieces. But although some of these had moving parts, like wheels, doors, gears and suspension, I’ve never built a fully robotic kit that I owned myself. Besides, LEGO robotics is way too expensive for a kid like me… So, for a long time serious robot-making felt like an impossible goal. But then imagine my surprise when I got my first Elegoo kit!The Elegoo kit: The Elegoo Building Block Car Kit is an attractive package and comes in a neat and reclosable plastic container. I really liked the container design as it wouldn’t rip as easily as the standard LEGO kit cardboard box would. All the parts are bagged by type. There are MANY connectors in the box as well as wheels. This is not an official LEGO kit, so all of the parts are LEGO clones, however, they fit just as well as the official product. The robotics-specific parts are nonstandard LEGOs, however they have similar connections to a normal LEGO and have magnets that snap them to one another. The kit has a large flat paper instruction sheet that folds out to cover an entire table. It's large enough to literally build the entire project on. However, it only contains startup instructions for the project. You’ll need to visit an android or ios app store to download the “Colego app” in order to find building instructions and the programming tools for the car.The Colego app (co-LEGO?): This is where things go downhill. The user interface is so-so, so I will split it into 3 parts: The manual, the coding, and the coding lessons. In the manual the part colors aren’t always accurate so there is some confusion during assembly. For instance, a gray part shown in the manual is actually black in real life. You also can’t zoom into small spaces, making examining details difficult. Also, a suggestion, double-tapping on a part should zoom in on it to show you how many studs or technic holes it has. This will definitely help with differentiating parts. In the coding section of the app some elements take up almost the whole screen so you can’t edit your code. There is just not enough space at all. You also can’t change what the blocks are auto-set to when they first pop up. There is no redo, undo, copy or paste (for example the SCRATCH coding app has all these features). This makes it very hard to make long code strings. Also the blocks don’t fully fit together in the user interface leaving gaps. This doesn’t affect your code, but looks very sloppy. Basically, the coding interface and layout is the absolute worst I’ve seen for any robotics kit. It needs to be fixed. Other issues I have with the app are that there is only one “when start button pressed” block and the bluetooth power saving settings are pretty aggressive and turn off the connections very quickly. As far as the robotics hardware goes, most of it is pretty well built, but I think the ultrasonic sensor is not the best. They are rather closely set together and seem to get confused by many typical household objects (like my mother’s sneakers).Lastly there are the coding lessons. They aren’t bad, but they go by type (movement, sound, etc). You can’t see the next type of lesson or skip/scroll through lessons you’ve already done. This is a good kit for kids who have done complex LEGO kit building and know how to plug things in using cables and ports, but are new to programming. Especially if they will only make very simple programs as the user interface of the app falls apart with larger blocks of code. Arduino use or knowledge would also help but if you’re already using Arduino this kit will be too simple for you.Good overall and I had fun with it, but not a real LEGO Robotics replacement. If it worked with Buzzwizz or BrickController 2 it would be a LOT more useful. But it is not recognized by those apps. The most fun I'm having with it is using it like a little remote control car with the app's control function on the home page under kit.
